Concrete / Poured Wall General Laborer – Willing to Train
Position Summary
Lakeshore Poured Walls Inc. is hiring a dependable General Laborer to join our poured-concrete foundation crew. This is a hands-on construction position working on residential and commercial foundation projects throughout West Michigan. The General Laborer will work alongside experienced crew members performing concrete foundation work, setting and stripping wall forms, preparing jobsites, handling materials and assisting during concrete pours. Concrete experience is helpful, but we are willing to train the right person who is dependable, hardworking and willing to learn the poured-wall trade.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup and removal of poured-wall foundation forms
- Help set, align, brace and secure concrete wall forms
- Assist with footings, foundation walls, garage foundations, additions and other poured-concrete projects
- Prepare jobsites before concrete work begins
- Carry, load and unload forms, tools, rebar and construction materials
- Assist with reinforcing steel/rebar placement and related foundation preparation
- Help during concrete pours, including placement and consolidation of concrete
- Operate concrete vibrators and other equipment after proper training
- Use tape measures, levels, hammers, drills, saws and other common construction tools
- Strip forms after concrete has cured
- Clean concrete forms and prepare them for the next project
- Apply form-release products as directed
- Help organize and maintain trucks, trailers, tools and equipment
- Perform general site cleanup and remove construction debris
- Assist with excavation-area preparation, backfilling and grading when required
- Follow layout measurements and instructions from the foreman or crew leader
- Signal equipment or concrete-truck operators when necessary
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
- Follow all company and jobsite safety procedures
- Wear required personal protective equipment
- Perform additional construction duties as assigned by the foreman
Required Qualifications
- Dependable and able to report to work on time
- Strong work ethic
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew
- Comfortable working outdoors in changing Michigan weather
- Comfortable working around concrete trucks, pumps, construction equipment and active jobsites
- Ability to safely use common hand and power tools after instruction
- Ability to read a tape measure or willingness to learn
- Reliable transportation to the required reporting location or jobsite
- Ability to perform physically demanding construction work throughout the workday
Preferred (Not Required)
- Previous construction experience
- Concrete or poured-wall experience
- Foundation-forming experience
- Experience with aluminum, steel or other concrete forming systems
- Rebar experience
- Concrete finishing experience
- Blueprint or construction-plan familiarity
- Equipment-operation experience
- OSHA or other construction safety training
- Valid driver's license
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Frequent bending, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling
- Climbing into and around foundation excavation areas
- Working on uneven surfaces
- Repeatedly handling construction materials and concrete forms
- Lifting and carrying heavy construction materials
- Working outdoors in heat, cold, wind, mud and other weather conditions
- Working around construction equipment, concrete trucks and pumps
- Wearing required PPE such as work boots, gloves, eye protection and hard hats
